December 2009
Holy crap. I haven't posted in a week!
How are things going here? Any exciting new scandals or controversies? I’ve been sick pretty much since Christmas, and I just haven’t felt like being online, or doing anything, for that matter. I haven’t even been reading, so you KNOW I was on death’s door.
Today is a better day, though. Happy New Year (a little early)! Y’all party safe now, ya hear?

Yeah!
Oh whine whine. This stuff always irritates me. Society WORSHIPS the thin, rich and beautiful. No one ever says they hate being so rich, so don’t pretend it’s terrible to be thin (and/or beautiful…for some reason, pretty people complain about that too). What, you’d rather be fat?

Life in the fast lane
alcaniglia:
Why is there a fast lane for airport screening for first class passengers? Think about it. Those security lines are run by the Transportation Services Agency (TSA). Security screening is run by the government, not by the airport and not by the airlines. Yet, we allow first class passengers to skip ahead of other passengers in this line.
Now, I have no problem with airport and...

But I think it sounds better for “possible” to be after “Christian education.”
I need grammar help.
My boss has written this sentence (more or less):
“Thank you for being a willing partner with us in making possible a Christian education.”
I think it should be:
“Thank you for being a willing partner with us in making a Christian education possible.”
Which one of us is right? And why?

Rachel Maddow confronts Ex-gay leader Richard Cohen on her show.
This woman holds a very special place in my heart.
This man, Mr. Cohen, is the kind of person I find particularly scary, in any context. He’s a charismatic, kind-looking, gentle-speaking man, who is I think is convinced that he’s helping people. Except that his ideas have created a...

Best news all day!
I knew I was going to get something wrong.
What I should have said is: Humans are more than just animals. Or perhaps: Humans are held to a different behavioral standard than animals with less cognitive and reasoning faculties.
But c’mon…didn’t y’all kind of know what I meant?

Fuck Joe Clark and the Submission He Rode In On
Seriously.
Good writing gets around quickly. It gets people excited. And you don’t have to beg people to read it or try and out them to make some kind of point.
Anybody who’s worked in book publishing or at any kind of agency, house, or firm that handles literary properties knows what a pain in the ass unsolicited submissions...
Explanation, please.
I’m not sure I understand what’s up with the “gay” animal pictures (the mountain goats, the penguins, the cats, etc.). What are people trying to say? That because animals of the same gender get frisky, people should too? Is that really a good direction to head in? In the wild, closely related animals (siblings, parent/child, etc.) often mate. Does that mean...

Maybe, just maybe…if you don’t want to get pregnant or run the risk of getting pregnant KNOWING that you are unable to carry on that responsibility; with all due respect — maybe these ladies should keep their legs CLOSED.

I’m kind of pissed that Boise State and TCU are playing each other in the Fiesta Bowl. You know it’s just so that none of the BCS teams will have to suffer a loss to a non-BCS team that’s supposed to be inferior, but actually isn’t, right? It’s lame. I want to see Florida or Ohio play Boise State or TCU and get blown away, so we can stop talking about how great the...

I just went to a movie theater and sat through the simulcast of Glenn Beck’s one-man show. I’m going to try to organize my thoughts. It’s not going to be easy. It was crazy.
I went with my hilarious friend Brendan McLoughlin, who bought the crucial pre-show drinks. That put me in charge of the tickets, which I purchased like a teenager buying porn. “Two for the Glenn Beck thing,” I...

Six Rules Doctors Need to Know

Rule 1: They don’t want to be at your office.
It may seem odd to patients, but most doctors forget that going to the doctor is generally unnerving. We work there, and being in a doctor’s office is normal to us. Not so with most patients. The spotlight is on them and their health. They stand on the scale, undress, tell intimate things about their lives, confess...

As I’ve mentioned before, my youngest brother plays football for Boise State. They’re an amazing team to watch. And while everyone else may hate that blue “smurf turf”, I love it.

At the end of chapter three in Going Rogue — that’s the chapter artfully titled “Drill, Baby, Drill” — Palin (/her ghostwriter) quotes UCLA basketball legend John Wooden as having said:
Our land is everything to us… I will tell you one of the things we remember on our land. We remember our grandfathers paid for it—with their lives.
Except…
