uglytomboy:

also, late to the game but was that story paul ryan told about mitt romney visiting a family whose kids had been paralyzed in a car crash supposed to be humanizing and heart-warming because all i got about of it was:

  1. hey way to bring up horrifying car accidents unsolicited in front of joe biden surely that won’t dredge up devastating memories and feelings you jackass
  2. like can you imagine mitt romney just coming over to your house with a sack full of probably expensive but unwanted presents for your family can you imagine anything more uncomfortable
  3. mitt romney offered to pay for the college educations of two children who were not his own.  digest that.  parents work their whole lives and can’t do that for their own kids.  mitt romney just offered that shit like you offer to lend your friend $5 cause this bar is cash-only and they’re a little short.  that is frightening wealth.  like that is not benevolent it is scary
  4. at first i was like “this anecdote has nothing to do with policy” but then i realized the romney/ryan plans for affording healthcare and higher education resolve under a single blanket program called “befriend a terrifying billionaire”
  5. cuz apparently that is the american way

Yeah, even at the time, my “this is a terrible idea of a story” bells were ringing at high alert. That story didn’t make me feel like Romney was a heart-warming guy. It made me angry. So Mitt was nice to a couple of people he met on the campaign trail (yeah, cause THAT isn’t suspicious in and of itself). Who is going to pay for the medical bills and college tuition and fucking basic food for all the other poor, disadvantaged, kids in the country? Fuck your privilege, man. Fix the SYSTEM so other kids can afford college without having to hope they run into to the Bank of Mitt by chance.
