awesome-everyday:

duessa:

Here’s a commission piece I did for the fantabulous awesome-everyday. It was great fun to do, especially as it’s MARTHA. I showed this to my hubby when he was half asleep and before I’d colored it; he told me it looked nothing like her. My heart sank because I was actually proud of something for once, but it turns out the poor dear was thinking of Donna, for some reason. Pffft.

I just wanna reblog this because it’s awesome.
I also want to reblog it to say that I haven’t loved a sci-fi character the way I love Martha Jones in a long time. She has a kind heart, she’s absolutely brilliant, and whenever possible she has positively no time for your shit.
She’s what I wanted to be when I grew up as a little girl; a space & time traveling medical PhD who isn’t afraid to help people, knows what she wants, yet also knows what she needs. Every kid should see Martha as a role model, imo.
And that’s why I dressed up like her for Halloween.
(Also I wanted an excuse to get that jacket, because it is awesome, and I plan on continuing to wear it all the time)

I always like to hear that other people love Martha, and their reasons. I have to say, even though I love that she’s a strong black female character on a sci-fi show, which is no small feat in itself, I think the brilliance of the character is how universal her strength is. She’s trustworthy enough for The Doctor to trust her with his human self. She’s heroic enough to save the world. She’s clever enough to get a job in any time. And she’s brave enough to walk away from the man she loves because she knows he’ll never love her back the way she deserves. She was never the whining damsel in distress. Martha will always be my favorite companion.
